About the Creator
Patio Pulse was founded by Dexter Callahan, a South African journalist and storyteller with over 15 years of experience covering African affairs across print, broadcast, and digital media. Born and raised in Cape Town, Dexter has traveled extensively across the continent, listening to farmers in Malawi, entrepreneurs in Rwanda, and elders in Senegal. He believes Africa’s stories deserve more than surface-level coverage — they deserve depth, dignity, and dedication.
Why This Website Exists
After years of seeing African narratives filtered through foreign lenses, Dexter created Patio Pulse to give the continent a voice of its own. Too often, international media reduces Africa to crises or clichés. We exist to counter that — to show the nuance, the resilience, the innovation, and the everyday beauty that defines modern Africa. This isn’t a news aggregator. It’s a curated experience, written with care, grounded in truth, and rooted in respect.
Our Values
Our work is guided by three core principles:
- Accuracy — Every story is fact-checked and sourced responsibly.
- Authenticity — We prioritize African voices, perspectives, and expertise.
- Clarity — Complex issues are explained with simplicity, never oversimplification.
We do not chase clicks. We chase understanding.
